Hot dang, we're over halfway through the "Monster Psalms" Kickstarter.
Not gonna lie it's been a crazy month over here. Multiple graduations, a Kickstarter, a teething baby, scoping out houses, a trip to Moab and a trip to California have kind of rocked my world.
Eventually this space will be used to document art/design challenges I give myself to grow as a creator, but for now, a Kickstarter is plenty to manage!
Out of the three, the automaton and dinosaur are a close tie for my favorite, so I'll do a quick breakdown of the design process for you guys.
AUTOMATON-
My main inspiration for this guy was the bomb design used by the uruk-hai in "The Two Towers" during the siege of helms deep. I also LOVE the shield of the gutrippas from GW's "Age of Sigmar" miniatures game. On top of that I love rendering brassy surfaces in pen and ink. Put those three together and viola, you have a siege-o-maton.

My approach for the arms and hands was fairly straightforward- He doesn't really need any. It makes much more sense to give this guy the bare minimum, two massive mace-gauntlets so he can beat anything that stands in the way of his target.
DINOSAUR
I'm a sucker for Pachyrhinosaurus (left) and all that knobby goodness on it's face. But I wanted something more ancient and aggressive looking. Throw the beak of a silver-cheeked hornbill (middle) and blue food coloring in there and you get something pretty cool.
That's all for now! I'll keep you guys posted as more art gets rolled out. If you'd like to sign up for the "Out-post" newsletter, you get the first 50 pages of my sketchbook, "INK1" totally free. No strings attached, just my treat to you.
And If you're a D&D player, the "Monster Psalms" kickstarter may be right up your alley. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/the-church-of-doom/monster-psalms
Till next time,
